Taking Courses Outside of Redwood

Students can enroll at Community Colleges across California to take classes. College of Marin is our local campus, but students can choose any college that offers virtual options.

Each college has it's own process for enrollment that the student must follow. College courses do not need to be added to the RHS transcript, UNLESS they are being used to meet a diploma requirement. What to expect during the registration process:

1. Review the course description, class meeting times, and prerequisites for each college class.

2. Register through California Community College.  Students will receive an email with their student ID, email address and student portal information.

3. Register and Attend an Orientation Session -virtual/online

4. Meet with a Counselor - virtual/online

5. Sign up for the class and compete any forms that are required for enrollment.

Online  HIGH SCHOOL classes

Some students are interested in taking high school level classes from independent online providers.  Students are allowed to import up to 20 credits onto their RHS transcript and are responsible for confirming that the online provider is an accredited institution.  Online classes must be pre-approved by your Counselor and the Principal, using the ALTERNATIVE CREDITS REQUEST form.

Students and parents should review the Frequently asked questions before signing up for online courses

RHS does not endorse or recommend any particular programs.

Students can choose any program that is approved through the UC A-G Course List.

Here are the most common programs RHS students have enrolled in:

APEX Learning

BYU Independent Study

Silicon Valley High School

UC Scout - On Demand

Add credits/courses to your RHS transcript:

  1. The student/family makes a written request using form E(1) 6146.11, Request for Alternate Credits Towards Graduation from their high school counselor prior to enrolling in the course.
  2. The student/family is responsible for submitting additional course descriptions and/or courses of study as required by the district in order to determine if a particular course may be taken to meet a graduation requirement.
  3. The student's high school Principal must approve the request.
  4. Once the course is completed, it is the student's responsibility to request an official transcript  be sent to Redwood High School, via PARCHMENT, to rhstranscripts@tamdistrict.org.
  5. A maximum of 20 credits  are permitted to be added to the Redwood transcript earned through alternative credits per school district policy.

A student’s role is to find the right course. The student should:

  • Make sure the course is approved by UC/CSU approved, listed here
  • Make sure the course is NCAA approved if considering college level sports in the future

Once you completed your course: IT IS THE STUDENTs' responsibility to request an official transcript be sent directly to Redwood high school
